Cross-country Skiing in the Heart of Quebec City

You can go cross-country in the heart of Quebec City on trails winding through delightful scenery and offering a view of the St. Lawrence River that is second to none. The Plains of Abraham have 11 km / 6.6 miles of groomed trails for beginner and intermediate cross-country skiers, as well as a ski skating trail. A waxing room and two heated way stops are located onsite. See the Trail Guide provided free of charge at the Discovery Pavilion of the Plains of Abraham.

The Plains of Abraham is one of the most prestigious urban parks in the world, with an impressive history, breath-taking natural beauty and vast open spaces. Located only a short walk from Old Quebec, it features both playing fields and quiet footpaths and gardens.





Technical information
  › Season: from mid-December to the end of March, depending on weather conditions.
› Opening hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
› Number of trails (marked and groomed) :
5 regular cross-country ski trails:
4 beginner and 1 intermediate
2 ski skating trails
4 footpaths


Services
  › Equipment rental (648-2586):
The Friends of the Plains of Abraham offers equipment for rent (boots, poles and skis) at level 0 of the Discovery Pavilion. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Full day and half day rates for adults and children.
› Waxing rooms :
Located along trail 1 at the entrance to the park near the intersection of Montcalm and chemin Saint-Louis. Open daily from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
› Way stops and vending machines :
Vending machines and 2 heated way stops onsite. Discovery Pavilion open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The visitor centre is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
› Patrols :
Ski patrol on duty depending on weather conditions.
› Cross-country skiing lessons (649-6476) :
The Friends of the Plains of Abraham offers cross-country skiing and ski skating lessons on Sunday mornings from 10:30 a.m. to noon, starting January 16. Equipment not included.
 

Rules for using ski trails
  › Ski in the direction indicated and respect signs
› Use the appropriate ski style for the trail in question (ex.: no ski skating on a regular cross-country trail)
› Pass other skiers on the left
› Yield to faster skiers
› Do not throw garbage along trails or damage plants or equipment in the park
› Do not ski off the trail
› Do not block the trail nor stop at an area that could inconvenience other skiers
› Use proper ski technique
› Understand and accept the risks associated with this sport
› Respect trail opening hours
